The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 140,000 civil engineers worldwide and is America’s oldest national engineering society.


Our ASCE Space Coast Branch brings together nearly 300 members from Florida’s Brevard and Indian River counties, including engineering interns, principal engineers, company presidents and owners, professors, retired engineers and every type of civil engineering professional in between. Our members represent over 75 engineering companies across the Space Coast, the nation and even the globe.

Chris Peterson

CHRIS PETERSON

President

Christopher Peterson is a graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology with a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering and works as a Civil Analyst with Kimely-Horn and Associates in Melbourne, Florida. Chris has been a President and Steel Bridge Captain of the ASCE Florida Tech Student Chapter, served on the Host Committee for the 2019 ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition, and is an avid supporter of ASCE. Chris serves now as the Treasurer of the ASCE Space Coast Branch and is active in the Florida Tech Student Chapter as a practitioner advisor. Chris spends his free time helping the local community, boating, and working with technology.

CHRIS CARRINO

Vice President

Chris Carrino is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He works as a Project Engineer for Wharton Smith Construction Group on Merritt Island. He served as the ASCE-UCF Student Chapter President, Concrete Canoe Captain, and Underclassmen Representative. As a new Brevard County resident, he looks forward to being a part of the community. He believes ASCE is a great resource for Professional Engineers and Students alike, and is excited to help grow the Space Coast Branch!

MATTHEW THOMAS

Secretary

Matthew “Matt” Thomas moved to Melbourne in 2018 when he accepted a position as a Field Engineer for HSR Constructors, J.V., a General Contractor working on the Brightline railroad extension from Orlando to West Palm Beach. Matt graduated from The University of New Orleans where he earned a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Engineering Management. Prior to working with HSR, Matt worked as a Project Engineer for Gibbs Construction, a General Contractor in New Orleans, on new construction and historic renovation of three buildings in downtown New Orleans. Matt has been an active member of the ASCE Student Chapter at UNO (taking the steel bridge team to the National competition in 2016) and the New Orleans Branch since 2014. Matt also serves as the Chairperson of the City of Melbourne’s Historic and Architectural Review Board. Matt is a registered Engineering Intern with the State of Louisiana and is planning to take the P.E. exam in the Spring. In his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and dogs, target shooting, and playing golf.

DANIELA S. JURADO, PE

T&DI Chair

Daniela S. Jurado, PE has 9 years of Transportation Engineering experience working with both public and private sector clients. She is a project manager with special emphasis in traffic engineering overviewing projects such as traffic impact studies, signal warrant studies, intersection control evaluations and parking studies. Daniela has worked as traffic engineering reviewer on behalf of the Village of Indiantown and currently works as reviewer on behalf of the City of Palm Bay. Her technical strengths include traffic operations, transportation planning and impact studies, travel demand models. She has extensive knowledge of various professional, engineering and planning software including: Vissim Microsimulation, Synchro, Visum, HCS, AutoCAD, and the Florida Standard Urban Transportation Model Structure-FSUTMS Travel Demand Software.

Daniela has also participated in several international projects. As contractor for Medellin’s National University Daniela worked as transportation modeler to calculate the anticipated transferred demand for the proposed Line F of the Medellin Metro System, she subsequently worked as lead transportation planning modeler for Phases 1 and 2 of Medellin’s Comprehensive Sustainable Mobility Plan (PIMS), for this project Daniela lead the modelling efforts to recreate Medellin’s Center, Iguana and Santa Elena neighborhoods roadway network using PTV Visum; Daniela also worked as part of the reviewing team for the 2017 Origin-Destination Survey and 4-Step Transportation Demand Model for the Aburra Valley Metropolitan Region. Finally, Daniela worked at Medellin’s Department of Transportation as in-house reviewer of Maintenance of Traffic Plans for events and construction.

VINAI BALROOP

Historian

Vinai Balroop is a graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He works as a Civil Analyst with for Kimely-Horn and Associates in Melbourne. He served as the ASCE-FIT Student Chapter Treasurer and Concrete Canoe Captain.

Quinn Duffy

QUINN DUFFY

Past-President

Quinn Duffy has been an ASCE member since he joined the Student Chapter at Florida Tech in 2014, where he graduated from with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a minor in Sustainability. He served as a leader on the Student Chapter Executive Board, participated as a Captain on the Concrete Canoe Team in the Southeast Region, and was the Conference Chair for the 2019 ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition at Florida Tech. Since graduating from Florida Tech in 2019, Quinn has worked in the industry and has served on the executive board for ASCE’s Space Coast Branch (as President in 2019, Treasurer in 2020 and now again as President since 2020). He currently works as a Civil Engineering Professional for Infrastructure Solution Services, a medium-sized civil engineering consulting firm located in Melbourne, Florida.

DR. PAUL COSENTINO

Academics & Education Chair

Dr. Cosentino has 40 years of research, teaching and consulting experience. This background has allowed him to teach 16 courses, from the freshman to graduate levels. He strives to teach FUNdamentals at every level, whether it be freshman or graduate level. His wide breadth of knoweldge also enabled him to serve as the Principal Investigator on  $5 million in funded research for 26 state and nationally funded projects.  He has worked with 14 faculty in civil, mechanical, systems, computer and electrical engineering plus environmental science. He has authored over 50 journal papers and reports.

Dr. Cosentino has also been heavily involved the American Society of Civil Engineers student chapter, having served as the faculty advisor for over 30 years.  During this time Florida Tech won the National Concrete Canoe Competition (the only private university to ever accomplish this feat) hosted the event twice, qualified for Nationals eight times and established an endowment for the student chapter in honor of our late Alumni Eric Primavera.
